Our TutorsThe following courses are offered by the London Institute of Thai Yoga Massage, ranging from Introductory Days for the complete novice through to advanced post-graduate training. Please contact us if you have any questions about the courses and pre-requisites. To apply for a place on one of our courses, please complete a booking form and send it to us with your payment (Introductory Days need to be paid for in full in advance. Please note the deposit required for the longer courses in the descriptions below).

Thai yoga massage - Introductory days

This is a great opportunity to experience Thai Massage in a fun and relaxed environment with a view to further training. Learn some basic techniques that are ideal to add to your practice, or just use with friends and family at home.

Students will learn to work on one main energy line, a variety of stretches and will also learn therapeutic points used in helping insomnia and headaches.

This one-day Thai yoga massage course is open to complete beginners.

At London Institute of Thai Yoga Massage we run practitioner training courses to the highest standards. The Thai massage courses are certified and accredited to Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT), and allows students who successfully complete the course to work professionally. The certificate is recognised by professional indemnity insurers.

A practical and theoretical training in the art of Traditional Thai massage, covering all aspects needed to apply an effective full-body Thai massage. On completion of the course students will be able with sensitivity and awareness to give a Thai massage in front, side, back and sitting positions.

The Traditional Thai massage practitioner course consists of 12 lessons (72 training hours). Each lesson begins with a lecture and practical demonstration, followed by supervised practice. This is a stimulating learning experience and a unique way to acquire a new skill, as well as a great opportunity for personal development.

At the end of the course students will be required to do 25 case studies (50 hours), and a final one off treatment as clinical practice at JKA, Fulham. This will be supervised with individual feedback from the tutor, and there will be an £80 additional charge for this.

Thai Yoga Massage - Postgraduate advanced Courses

This course is designed for people who have completed the practitioner training level 1, and who want to learn more techniques that can be applied to the body. The course comprises of 12 days (72 training hours), over 6 weekends, and consists of learning advanced stretches for the whole body, in front, back, side and sitting positions. We will also look in closer detail at the locations of the ten sen (energy lines), students will also learn some Alexander technique based skills to incorporate into treatments, and will look at energy in more detail.

Each lesson begins with a practical demonstration and lecture, followed by supervised practice. Classes are kept small to allow the maximum individual attention from the tutors.

The certificate is recognised by professional indemnity insurers.

A practical and theoretical training in the art of Traditional Thai massage, covering all aspects needed to apply an effective full-body Thai massage. On completion of the course students will be able with sensitivity and awareness to give a Thai massage in front, side, back and sitting positions.

The course has been condensed; because of this a larger amount of time of personal study between months is expected to ensure successful completion.

Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology Course

Duration 8 days
Price The course fee is £235.
The exam fee is £60.

This course will provide you with a thorough understanding of the structure and workings of the human body and of the effects of common diseases and conditions.

After the end of the course you will be eligible to take a written examination leading to the Massage Training Institute Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.

The Massage Training Institute is a national examining body and a professional association specialising in holistic massage. It is a member of the General Council for Massage Therapy and, through this association, is actively involved in the process of setting accreditation standards in this country as required by the government and the EC. The course will take place in North London and comprises eight Sundays (10 am to 5 pm) – with time between them to allow for home study and preparation of assignments. The days will include active learning – experiential exercises, games and group discussions.

Day 1 - Introduction. Skeletal system.
Day 2 - Muscular system. Effects of exercise and bodywork.
Day 3 - Skin, touch and other senses. Nervous system.
Day 4 - Endocrine system. Physiology of stress and relaxation.
Day 5 - Digestive, respiratory and urinary systems.
Day 6 - Cardiovascular, lymphatic and immune systems.
Day 7 - Reproductive system, growth and development. Revision.
Day 8 - Mock exam and revision.

Notes will be provided for each day. The recommended course text book is –
Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for the Massage Therapist by Su Fox and Darien Pritchard (Corpus Publishing). A book list of other helpful texts will also be provided.

The course tutor will be Richard Leadbeater. Richard has worked as a massage practitioner since 1984 and as a teacher since 1989. He is also a senior examiner for the Massage Training Institute and a member of their executive committee.

Course entry requirements – Students must be at least eighteen years of age at the commencement of the course and have an adequate level of written and spoken English.

Exam enrolment requirements – The exam will take place in Spring 2007 at a date to be arranged. You will need to be enrolled for the exam at least one month before the exam date, including payment of the exam fee. You are required to have attended all classes/catch-up sessions and completed all homework assignments before enrolment. Catch-up sessions for any missed classes (maximum of 3) last between 1½ and 2 hours at a cost of £40 and take place in Barnet.

Booking procedure – Please telephone Richard Leadbeater if you have not spoken to him previously. Complete the booking form and send a non-refundable deposit of £100.
The balance of the course fee is payable at the commencement of the course.

Spaces are limited to eight students so early booking is advisable.
If more applications are made, a larger venue in North London may be found or, alternatively, a second course may be arranged in 2007.
